My mom, Fernando, and I decided to look for a family in need at The Storehouse. It has recently become a tradition for me to volunteer there during the Holiday season. It has been a tradition for my mom for quite some time because she is part of Rotary, and they donate turkeys every year, and members from rotary go and helps the families “shop” for free food, giving portions depending on the size of the family.
We helped around four families and a few of them stuck out to us, but it was my mom’s idea to start talking to the workers because she said that sometimes the workers are in need as well but are still trying to help others. We started “interviewing” the workers of the Storehouse and spoke with this man Gabriel. He said how he used to be homeless like a lot of the people shopping for food. Gabriel said he was struggling but he can make ends meet as far as bills. He touched our hearts so I handed him the envelope and told him the story, and we all held back tears. Gabriel asked if we could work at the Storehouse more often. 🙂
