Lisa R.’s Story: Kindness is a blessing, even for the unkind

When I initially was told we’d be doing Angels on the street, I began planning who I’d give the money to.

I have a friend who helps women, some are in recovery, some may have just gotten out of jail, or some are just down on their luck and she helps them get back on their feet. I called her an told her I need someone who was in need so I could give the money to them. I had decided to handle it in this way.

A few day before Christmas, another friend was telling me about this lady we used to work with in 2004. Her husband had died and she was receiving approximately $1000 a month for income and her rent was $800 so she didn’t have money for food and other incidentals. I remembered this lady, she was rude, loud, and obnoxious, all the time. This is who I am going to give the money to, I thought. Even though she was a rude person, I should bless her. I told my friend to get her address. My plan was to deliver it to her on Christmas.

On Christmas eve, I was driving home and I noticed this lady sitting on the bus stop. It was too late for her to be waiting on a bus, then I noticed her cart with all of her belongings. God said to me this is who you should give the money to. So I pulled over and got out of the car and walked over to the lady and said, “This is for you. I just want you to know that their are Angels on the streets” and I walked away. We make plans everyday of our lives and  think we have everything all figured out but God always has a better plan.
