Ever since I moved to my new neighborhood Ive become good friends with our neighbor, Rosalind. Shes an older lady who is a widow and has 2 adult children and 3 grandkids. Over the thanksgiving holiday/break she kept coming to our door asking if my 2 kids could play with her grandchildren. While I always said yes, I invited her in one evening because she seemed stressed. I have 3 kids myself so Im sure she was beyond stressed with the crazy yelling and jumping around. We started talking about none sense and was brought on the topic of taking in her grandchildren. While trying to respect privacy, I began to ask if everything was ok and if she needed any help. She kindly shared her daughter unfortunately got into some trouble and now the kids need to be with her. She expressed that ever since her husband passed, its only been her and this is a huge adjustment., while shes thankful .. its just a huge change. She then began to say that they only had enough time to collect a bag of the kids belongings. Although the kids are a bit younger than mine (4 & 2) thank goodness Ive saved some of my daughters clothing. I insisted she take the totes of clothes and other misc items. While doing this, we were talking about Christmas and how it was my favorite holiday and shes more than welcome to spend it with us if she does not have any other plans. She didnt seem to be too excited about the holiday because as is, shes already stressed out. Without going into detail, I handed over the envelope and explained what Angels on the Street was and why we do this every year. She was just so thankful and so appreciative. Hoping this would alleviate at least SOME of her stress. She proceeded to say “To have a company care for others and do this type of gesture is just so heartwarming. We dont have a lot of kindness like this in the world anymore, thank you” Needless to say, I think Rosalind and I will be forever neighbors!
