My mom had a massive stroke on November 29th. She has been in a shared hospital room with new roommates coming and going sine she has been there. Yesterday she received a new roommate again and his daughter and wife were with him. The nurse came in to tell his family he would be there at least 2 nights, and they would need to find a hotel since they were not local. They were very distraught about not having money to cover that. Kaiser told them an alternative would be their “family” home two blocks away. It was a place that visitors of acute care patients could stay with food, showers and beds for $35/night. It was finally my time to be an “Angel on the Street”. I pulled that envelope out of my purse as fast as I could for them. They were extremely grateful and said it was truly from the angels.
I did not know at the time, but yesterday ended up being mom’s last day at the hospital local to me and she was sent to a nursing home closer to their home last night. I almost did not go on my lunch to visit, but now I know I was meant to be there yesterday to see her and meet that family.
