I picked Mission Avenue Elementary school to give to. I have witnessed, in the last year and a half, several children and families that seem in need. Some examples of children walking to school from a nearby rent-by-week hotel, parents crying because their hours had been cut at work, etc. I was directed to the School Councilor and she gave me the various options for where we could give the money to. For my $100 charitable act I decided to spend the money on tangible groceries from Wal-Mart. The items purchased included tube socks, gloves, crackers, peanut butter, fruit cups, fruit bars, granola bars, water bottles, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, shampoos… These items will also be gathered from other charitable givers within my family’s network over the next 6 weeks. The week of Christmas will be spent putting some of each of these items into separate gift bags.

I had a much harder time trying to figure out whom or what I wanted to give this generous donation to than I thought I would. I quickly realized that I didn’t want to just give it to anyone that looked like they might be in need.
