Andrew Chavez’ Story

On November 22 after leaving work, I decided to stop by my brother’s house to help set up for the
Thanksgiving party. After an hour we had all the tables and chairs where my sister-in-law wanted them. I
left and decided to go see if I could find someone that I could give my Angles on the Street card. I
stopped by Wal-Mart and went inside. I wondered around the store aimlessly pretending to shop while
looking around to see if anyone may need help. As I was walking by the registers there was a couple with
their two kids and a shopping cart full of food. I get behind them in line and I notice that the young lady
pulls out two cards out of her purse. When it was their time to check out, the cashier lady scanned all
the couple’s food. When the young lady went to pay with the cards they were not working. I was like oh
man. I didn’t want to ask too meany questions because I didn’t want to be rude. I saw they were buying
food for Thanksgiving because they had a ham in their basket. The cahier called over a manager to by
pass the lock out on the register. They still were having a hard time with the cards. When they were
doing that, I reached into my pocket and pulled out the envelope for Angels on the Street. I handed it to
the young lady and she saw what it said on the outside of the envelope and opened it. She was like wow
and really surprised. She said no I can’t take it and she got a little emotional. I said please take it and
enjoy Thanksgiving. The cashier also got a little emotional. The young couple was very grateful and
thanked me. It felt really good knowing that they could enjoy Thanksgiving.
