Jenna’s Story: Woman’s illness strains finances

I sat listening to a story about someone’s life. She had run away from home at 16, and was pregnant not long after. Not being sure where the next meal was coming from or where made her life quite difficult. Add the two additional children that arrived quickly in succession and it became even more difficult.

One day something clicked and she came back home to her family. She decided to put herself through school, have a full time job, and take care of her family. Recently, she was over the moon when her second child followed in her older sibling’s steps and decided to pursue her college degree.

All seemed well until a couple weeks ago on a vacation. She started hemorrhaging blood and told the kids she was going to visit a friend, but instead took herself to the hospital. You could see the stress on her face as she explained she didn’t know how she was going to pay the medical bills and both tuitions for her kids.

I left the envelope on her desk anonymously and later she came to tell me what someone had done. The stress is there, but her spirit seems to shine a bit brighter. Thank you Angels on the Streets for letting me assist in paying it forward. 🙂
