Sharon’s Story

My name is Sharon S. and I presented my Angels on the Street donation to Joy Junction. I spoke with my family when the gift was first presented to us by Payday Inc. and we did not know of any families in need. I chose Joy Junction as I looked into living there about two years ago when my children and I were looking at becoming homeless. Fortunately for us circumstances changed. The program at Joy Junction is amazing for those who are either trying to change their lives for the better or for those who suddenly find themselves looking at homelessness for the first time. They provide shelter, food, and safety.

When I presented my donation to Barbara and Elizabeth, I explained to them the Angels on the Street program and the generosity of my employer. I also explained to them the reason behind my choice to present it to them to support their wonderful program. They truly appreciated the donation and took a picture to post on their Facebook page. When I first arrived, I waited for them as they were very busy checking in volunteers, taking a volunteer to give residents haircuts and answering phone calls. While I was waiting, I watched children play in their central gathering room. These children were so happy as if they were at home. I also saw adults of many age groups with smiles on their faces. Joy Junction provides so many with a new opportunity for the future when life has dealt tough blows. I knew my donation was going to the right place. When I left there I drove away crying thinking about the safe haven Joy Junction provides for those struggling from changes in their lives. Our community is very lucky to have them. They not only need monetary donations but they also need volunteers to provide a variety of services, from serving food to giving haircuts, etc. Joy Junction is a blessing.
