When Payday first gave each of us the one hundred dollars my first instinct was to do something for animals. However one of the rules was to find a person who could really use the money. I spoke to my son and my husband but I couldn’t think of a way to be sure the money would go to someone who really needed it. I thought of a person who my husband works with who was saving for a new heating system for his small home but the one hundred dollars wouldn’t go very far towards that. Then I remembered when my husband and I were doing some Christmas shopping for our son a few months before, the store we were shopping in was selling T- Shirts to go towards paying medical expenses for a young man who was being treated for a rare form of cancer. I decided to put my money towards his medical expenses. He has an account set up at any Bank of the West for donations towards his medical bills and it is called the Zak Lannon Cancer Fund.
Zak is a student at West Mesa High School and a member of their football team. This March his mother took him to the doctor for a problem wart on his foot. Zak’s doctor diagnosed him as having Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor cancer. The prognosis is less than one in five survival rate. Zak has been through five bouts of chemotherapy and stem cell harvesting. In August, Zak and his family flew to New York where the doctors removed ninety five percent of the cancerous tumors. He came back home to Albuquerque and the House of Football began selling the shirts and sending letters to NFL teams asking for donations of signed merchandise for an auction that was to be held on November 15th to raise money for his medical expenses. Tickets were being sold but due to a low response in tickets sales the House of Football decided to begin auctioning the items world wide to bring a wider audience to raise money.
Zak’s motto is ” You never know how strong you are, until being strong is the only choice you have.” Any one who would like more information can go to zaklannon.com or inquiries@houseofFootball.com
