Misty’s Story

I had a much harder time trying to figure out whom or what I wanted to give this generous donation to than I thought I would. I quickly realized that I didn’t want to just give it to anyone that looked like they might be in need. I wanted it to go to someone or something that could truly benefit from the $100 that Andy and Sylvana so generously gave us. Just being given this task to give made me realize how much I actually have and how lucky those around me are as well. I did not personally know of anyone who was truly struggling to make ends meet day in and day out. After thinking very hard on how I wanted to donate this money, I finally decided to give it towards toys for children in the Albuquerque Public School system.

I was made aware of an event in early December where the main goal is to get as many toys for APS as possible in one evening to donate to families with children who may not necessarily have the means to buy gifts for Christmas. I went to Walmart and was able to get over 10 gifts for both girls and boys for just $100. I had so much fun picking out toys that I thought children would enjoy. It also felt amazing knowing that the money was being used directly for the kids and that several children will have gifts to open on Christmas morning thanks to this wonderful donation.

Angels on the Street made me take a step out of myself and the people directly around me and realize how many more people are in actual need of help, and how much more we could all do. I have tended to be selfish and spend money on myself and my friends and family who already have so much. After seeing how much can be bought and how many other lives could be changed with just $100, I realized that I could give more, and plan on doing so over the holiday season.

Thank you Andy and Sylvana!
