We’ve recently moved to Albuquerque from Richmond, VA leaving behind my step daughter who is putting herself through college in Savanah, GA. For the past few years, she has spent the winter break with myself and her mother which we have thoroughly enjoyed our time together. We try to talk once a week to catch up on life and school, and recently we shared how lonely the holidays will be as we won’t be together. It’s an 8 hour drive from Savannah to Richmond and several day’s drive from Savannah to Albuquerque, and that’s not taking into consideration weather conditions and time of the year.
We told her at least she’ll be able to spend time with her grandmother who also lives in the Virginia area. That’s when she started crying and told us her car won’t make it as “Pepe” (Toyota Corolla) has several thousand miles and needs new tires. Being a college student and living on a very tight budget makes it difficult when “unexpected” expenses pop up. We tried to console her and promised to bring her out to Albuquerque next year maybe during spring break.
After we got off the phone, I made a few phone calls and got a couple quotes for 4 new/used tires for “Pepe”. With the generosity of Andrew and Sylvanna, our daughter will be able to spend the holidays with her grandparents in Virginia and both mom’s in Albuquerque will be happy to know she’ll be safe and loved this holiday season.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
